Mazda CX-3: Features, Performance & Trim Levels

The Mazda CX-3 is refreshed and even better-equipped for 2019

When the subcompact crossover segment started gaining traction a few years ago it had its naysayers, but the vehicles have proven their popularity and each model brings its own flavor to shoppers. Some are known for being able to swallow a surprising amount of cargo, some for their style, and some their engaging performance. Mazda's offering is the Mazda CX-3 and although it may not be the most spacious subcompact crossover, it's known for having an upscale look and ride-quality that many of its competitors cannot beat.

Today we're going to look at the Mazda CX-3 so you'll know what to expect when you come into our Edmonds dealership for a test drive. For the 2019 model year, the Mazda CX-3 received a mid-cycle refresh that has higher-quality materials, a new grille, wheel, and taillight design, an enhanced offering of advanced safety features for confident driving in busy Seattle, and more!

Power and Space

This vehicle is available in three trims (Sport, Touring, and Grand Touring) and regardless of which you choose you'll get a 2.0L engine with 148 horsepower and 146 lb-ft torque. These ratings stay the same for 2019, though the engine has been tuned for better efficiency and a more refined drive.

Another update the design team made was changing from a manual parking brake to an electronic one. They did this not only for a techy-upgrade but also to give more room for the redesigned front-row center console and arm rest; in the subcompact crossover segment, every bit of space matters!

Trim-Level Features

The base-level Mazda CX-3 Sport trim has a lot of great updates. For example, blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is now standard! In the past, the Sport didn't have any package options (you could only upgrade to premium paint colors), but now there is an all-new i-ACTIVESENSE™ Package that has Advanced Smart City Brake Support with Pedestrian Detection, radar cruise control, lane departure warning, adaptive front-lighting, and more. These advanced safety updates are appreciated. They not only provide drivers with more confidence as they commute from Kirkland or Everett, but they also position the Mazda CX-3 in a great light, as not many vehicles in its segment have these kinds of technologies standard or even available.

Other features you'll find include updated cloth seats, Bluetooth, a rearview camera, push button start, low-speed Smart City Brake Support, and a MAZDA CONNECT™ 7-inch touchscreen.

As you can see, the Mazda CX-3 Sport is well-equipped, but if you want more you'll love the Touring trim. It has larger 18-inch wheels, a keyless entry, and comfortable leatherette seats that give a refined look without breaking the bank.

For upgrades, the Mazda CX-3 Touring can also get the i-ACTIVESENSE™ Package. The Preferred Equipment Package from previous years carries over as well. With it, you can jam out driving around Lynnwood thanks to a Bose premium sound system, celebrate dry days with a sunroof, go hiking in Everett and keep valuables out of sight with a cargo cover, and get a subscription to SiriusXM radio.

Last, though certainly not least, is the top-level Mazda CX-3 Grand Touring trim. Outside, there are adaptive LED headlights and chrome accents. On the inside, instead of leather-trimmed seats with a suede insert from previous years, the 2019 Mazda CX-3 has full leather seats with piping. Have a little more fun driving around Bothell with paddle shifters, get to point B on time with standard navigation, and keep your eyes on the road with the class-above Active Driving Display head-up technology!

Just like the the other trims, you can upgrade the Mazda CX-3 Grand Touring. This trim has the Premium Package with a 6-way power-adjustable driver's seat, heated steering wheel for cold, damp days, traffic sign recognition, and more!
